About
85 ans d'histoire d'une île de la Caraïbe sous le regard de deux lignées de la famille de Montvilard. Cette île c'est la Martinique, ancienne terre d'esclaves, ancien fief des colons. En 1817, une jeune Africaine débarque des cales d'un navire négrier, à Saint-Pierre. Son fils, Simon, mulâtre né d'un viol, est élevé par ses propriétaires. L'auteur nous fait revivre les moments intenses et douloureux de la lente transformation du paysage social et politique de l'ancienne colonie jusqu'en 1902 où la ville de Saint-Pierre disparaît sous le feu de la Montagne Pelée.
