This is a novel about a young man named Phin who is blind. It is set in a magical land filled with intrigue and very interesting characters and events. There is a dragon and many adventures.

The tiny child slept nestled in warm blankets in a sturdy wooden bed made small to fit his size. A ribbon of moonlight rippled through the thick clouds like a shining river descending from the skies, threading its way into the boy’s chamber. It fell through the glossy, bay window, illuminating the smiling face of the young boy. He was small, with unruly brown hair, sturdy young bones and a sweet face yet unmarred by the harshness of the world. One small fist was clasped around a medallion that he wore around his neck and never took off, it’s largeness a symbol of his noble birth.
The queen, thin and gentle natured, walked into the silent room to check on her sleeping son. She stood beside his low bed, watching how the moonlight turned his face pale like milk. Her eyes wandered to sweeping hills, broad fields of blue-green grass, and the thick forests that formed the Kingdom of Casan. The kingdom’s land was surrounded on three sides by stately mountains that kept out danger from the Beyond, a thick, nearly untamable forest bordering them to the east. The palace she stood in rested on the highest hill, near a stretch of wood, their bows silver and their leaves white in the darkness of night.
The clouds again covered the sliver moon, almost full, and cast the room into darkness, except for the few, low burning candles. It flickered and smoked slightly but stayed alight. No one was awake at this time of night, a time when all the world seemed to sleep. The air was filled with quiet peace. The queen walked to her sleeping, smiling child and stood beside his small bed. She loved him dearly, but he seemed destined to make her worry. Only today, he had wandered on his toddler legs into the stable and reached out to stroke the fieriest stallion in the herd. And it had allowed it, to the astonishment of all the grooms. A smile lay on the sleeping face and the gentle queen knew he remembers too.
She stroked his soft hair away from his cheek, and then she smiled, stepping back. "Sleep well dear child," she whispered, a familiar phrase she often said to him. "I’m sure you will have plenty more adventures."
Little did she know how his life you change that very night.
