About
A vingt ans tout juste, l'auteur boucle son sac et part finir ses études de géographie à Cuba. On est alors en pleine "période spéciale", peu après l'effondrement du bloc soviétique. Elle séjourne longuement à la Havane et découvre un quartier neuf, présenté par le régime comme la vitrine du socialisme cubain: Alamar. Il s'agit à la fois d'un palimpseste dans lequel s'inscrit lisiblement la politique cubaine depuis la révolution de 1959 et d'un quartier où se métissent toutes les catégories sociales. Devenue ethnologue, intriguée par cette ville inachevée, elle y retourne en 2002 et s'y installe.
