Perfect Incision
My name is Krishnaiah. I am a doctor, not by chance, but by choice. I studied medicine to provide medical care to the poor and needy. My brother helped me establish a hospital at Zala, a small, ignored village in the state of Andhra Pradesh, India.
Surrounded by monumental hills, in the middle of the forest, Zala is an ideal location for nature loving people, and should have attracted tourists from far and wide. But, it does not attract any one because the forest is the abode of people, who call themselves naxalites or maoists. Many are scared of them, but for some reason, they never bothered me.
When they came to me for treatment, I never refused, and some times even went to the extent of going to the forest to provide treatment. One day, I was in the forest to tend to an ailing patient, when the police caught me. They put me on trial for waging war against India. The media said that I was a terrorist in white coat. I found it difficult to comprehend why people fail to understand simple things. Is it not my duty to treat any person, who approaches me with a medical problem, whoever it might be?
Perfect Incision is about me and my legal battles for commiting the crime of medical care. You can say that it is my diary, not written as it happened, but on hind sight. Between 1950-1990, India was a different world from today, and justice was delivered only if you fought for it.
