Systemic conditions of political aggression (SCOPA) project, 1955-1964

This study contains domestic conflict events in all countries of the world for the period 1955-1964. These events fall broadly into two categories: 1) turmoil initiated by members of the general populace and directed either against the government or against other persons or groups within the society, and 2) coercion and conciliation initiated by officeholders and directed toward other members or branches of the government. A subset of events in both categories was designated as minority group tensions. Variables include the type of event, issue involved, event's location, number of participants, amount of violence, and level of repressive force (where applicable). A summary scale was developed to indicate intensity of the event. The total file consists of approximately 35,000 events. The United States is probably overrepresented in the dataset due to reliance on United States sources.
