Le mouvement écologique brésilien, méconnu bien que très puissant, a connu plusieurs phases évolutives. Schématiquement, des années 1980 aux années 2000, un agrégat de mouvements socio-environnementaux émerge, pour aboutir à la formation du Parti Vert. Celui-ci intègre de nombreuses problématiques identitaires et socio-économiques, qu'a su rendre plus légitime la victoire du Parti des Travailleurs. Enfin, depuis 2004, le cyberactivisme et les nouvelles formes de mobilisation collective obligent l'écologie politique à se repenser.
