Het grote Bavoboek

September 5, 1520: with great precision, the gilded cross is placed on the crossing tower of the Bavo, 78 meters above the ground. The church is now officially 'finished', even though a lot would still be built, rebuilt and restored. This book describes the history of the Bavo, the social, religious and cultural significance of the church for the city of Haarlem, the interior, the glasses, the world-famous organ, the 'major restoration' by mainly Pierre Cuypers and many more aspects that Make Bavo one of the most beautiful Gothic churches in our country. In order to bundle all knowledge, the Friends of the Grote of St. Bavokerk has put together a team of specialists: construction, art and architecture historians, archaeologists, music experts and of course tour guides who are involved in the church - experts par excellence. Their texts, along with historical footage and specially crafted photos and 3D drawings, provide detailed insight into the rich history of the Bavo 5 september 1520: met de nodige precisie wordt het vergulde kruis op de vieringtoren van de Bavo geplaatst, 78 meter boven de grond. De kerk is nu officieel 'af', ook al zou er nog veel aan gebouwd, verbouwd en gerestaureerd worden. Dit boek beschrijft de geschiedenis van de Bavo, de maatschappelijke, religieuze en culturele betekenis van de kerk voor de stad Haarlem, het interieur, de glazen, het wereldberoemde orgel, de 'grote restauratie' door voornamelijk Pierre Cuypers en nog veel meer aspecten die de Bavo tot een van de mooiste gotische kerken van ons land maken. Om alle kennis te bundelen heeft de Vereniging Vrienden van de Grote of St.-Bavokerk een team van specialisten samengesteld: bouw-, kunst- en architectuurhistorici, archeologen, muziekdeskundigen en natuurlijk ook rondleiders die bij de kerk betrokken zijn - kenners bij uitstek.
