The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Trickster: Trickster Discourse in Sherman Alexie’s The Absolutely True Diary of Part-Time Indian

You are one thing yet you are another. This is a feeling many people experience on a daily base; the feeling of being a paradox in its own right. Arnold Spirit Junior, protagonist in Sherman Alexies The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian, feels this way as well. On top of this, he also needs to deal with changing schools, and in order to be able to do this, he needs to change himself. I belief that he used the idea of the Native American trickster figure to do this. Because through all of my research I have concluded that the trickster is a paradox in its own terms. It is a god who creates the world and it is a human who makes mistakes. Yet the trickster is much more than that, and so is Junior.
