In the last two decades, the urban policy of the municipality of Belo Horizonte and its Metropolitan Region using the Bourdian theory of the field of power. This set of interventions includes investments in road structure and urban mobility programs; large urban requalification and infrastructure projects, like the works related to the 2014 FIFA World Cup; the urban operations Isidoro, Barreiro Station and Nova BH; the enterprises related to the strategic planning of the northern vector of the metropolitan region; and the large scale of new public equipment and planned private enterprises. The three objectives for this work are:(a) to verify the factors that structure the presence of large projects in urban policy; (b) to identify the nature and intensity of their political, economic and cultural determinations and the mediation structure of these determinations within the field, i.e., the link between recent inflections in global economic policy and the characteristics of GPUs in the RMBH (Região Metropolitana de Belo Horizonte); and (c) to identify the role of the planning field in this production and, from the perspective of the field of power to build alternatives of action. Twenty-six projects are studied based on their invariant characteristics.
