About
"From the early 1950s until the mid-1960s, the Risiera di San Sabba was the main reception centre for foreign refugees in today's national territory and was used by both the Anglo-American and Italian authorities [after 1954] to manage the arrival of thousand of refugees from Yugoslavia and other Eastern European countries. In the period between their arrival in Trieste and their subsequent resettlement overseas, the refugees had to be housed, fed and cared for, and for this reason the Anglo-American administration set up several refugee camps. The most important reception centre in the area was San Sabba, which features in most of the photos in this catalogue."--Back cover
