Fietsparkeren bij stations

Twenty years ago, the government made money available for the first time to expand bicycle parking facilities at stations and to significantly improve their quality. It marked a different way of dealing with the cyclist as an important pivot in the development of central and station areas and the stimulation of the bicycle-train combination as a form of sustainable quality. It also marked the permanently changed appearance of station environments in the Netherlands. Over the past twenty years, ProRail, provinces, municipalities and NS have realized an average of 25,000 bicycle parking spaces per year. And the end is nowhere in sight. Due to the growing use of both the train and the bicycle, more and ever larger bicycle parking facilities have appeared in the station area: we are now building in the ground, into the air, under the tracks and even ... under water. bicycle parking facilities at stations is a profession for which there is no training.
