About
ABSTRACT The aim of this [book][1] is to present, in a coherent way and from the viewpoint of the automatic control engineer, the most important stability results concerning the mono- and multivariable automatic control systems. It is a tentative to open a bridge between theory and practice by the fact that the major conception reason was to blend the apparent paradox that "nothing is as practical as a good theory" (Helmholtz) with the didactic precept that "examples are more useful than rules" (Newton). Most of the results of the book are devoted to the stability analysis. According to the practical viewpoint that this cannot be a purpose by itself, certain design techniques as a natural continuation are also approached. In view of the major outlook, most of the theoretic results are accompanied by proofs and all the examples (about 90) are solved. The book is almost self-contained and the only prerequisite is an elementary course of mathematics for engineers. In this respect, chapter I summarises the principal aspects of the mathematical modelling and, on this basis, the internal and external stability concepts are introduced. The subsequent chapters are concerned with the stability analysis techniques for linear (II), nonlinear (III) and multivariable (IV) automatic control systems. For an easier handling of the book, a general scheme of all the stability types and the analysis techniques is available (Annex F). The book is addressed to the engineers, designes, scientists, and students who usually operate with automatic control concepts. [1]: http://www.scribd.com/mvoicu5784
