Drawing on every period of English Literature from Anglo-Saxon times to the present day, this anthology offers a unique selection of poetry written by women. It is divided into ten thematic sections — for example, Motherhood, War, Faith and Religion, Politics and Social Protest — that illustrate the breadth of subject matter addressed by women. This is a book for the general reader, as well as being invaluable for school or college students. Of particular interest and help to those preparing for examinations are the comments and questions prefacing each section, which suggests ways of engaging with poems.
This is an anthology that is challenging, entertaining and full of surprises. It sets out to make more widely known many fine but neglected poems written by women.
