Ancient Egypt. The Nile is rising, and in the summer heat, thousands of workers toil at Pharaoh’s command to raise the Great Pyramid. Meryt’s father trained her in his healing arts, so when an injury threatens his life, it seems only natural for her to take his position on the team. But the Royal Vizier brings in a replacement, Nakht. Now her family faces ruin, and Meryt wants to hate him. His dark eyes and wicked smile speak to her lonely heart, but can she trust him?

It doesn’t take long for Nakht to realize that Meryt's passion for healing, and her skills, are the equal of his own. Yet nothing he does seems to get past the walls around her heart, until he puts his reputation and his life at risk to help her father. Doing so makes him, and Meryt, targets for the Court politicians and Temple priests who jealously guard their power and their secrets. Will they poison the growing romance between Meryt and Nakht before it even blossoms?
