About
Abstract: A comprehensive reference text consolidates and indexes the current knowledge of diabetes to aid the search by practicing physicians and other health care professionals for information needed to assess the nature of a patient's problems and their optimal rectification. The 54 chapters of the text, prepared by experts in their respective fields of specialty, are organized among 7 themes, viz.: the nature of diabetes; its diagnosis and screening; long-term diabetes management; complications associated with diabetes; concomitant problems of the patient (e.g., infection, pregnancy, hypertension, hyperlipidemia); the impact of socioeconomic problems; and the development and evaluation of diabetes care programs. Ancillary information and guidelines are provided in 9 appendices. Numerous illustrations, photographs, charts, tables, and references are provided throughout the text.
