Alanna

Set in England during the 1500s during a time of arranged marriages, Alanna is told by her father that she is to be married to a long-time friend's son. But Alanna wants to choose for herself the man she marries. After a heated discussion, she consents to meet the man with the stipulation that if they do not get along, she will not marry him. The future groom is battling his own demons. Because Devon was born a bastard, someone believes that he should not inherit his father's title and wealth. He gets severely beaten and is left for dead.
