"Many former communist countries with transitional economies seek to find a quick way out of economic stagnation by use of land reform as it is expected that by privatising land, economic development will take off, improving food security and decreasing rural poverty. This argument has been questioned and it is now seen that, to be effective, land policy reforms need to be complemented with institutional reforms and rural development activities. This book puts forward a new model which links macro-economic factors with concepts such as land tenure security and food security, and tests it on a detailed country case study. In doing so, it offers new insights and shows how this model can aid rapid assessment of implemented policies by showing up early warnings."--Jacket.
