De schilders van de Vechtstreek

The river Vecht, which runs from Utrecht to Muiden, has for centuries reflected both the beauty of nature and the richness of Dutch culture from the past. Especially in the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries, several wealthy families from Amsterdam and Utrecht settled here. They had large, impressive country estates built along the Vecht, often with leafy gardens. This richly varied landscape attracted many artists who captured the beauty of the Vecht region in paintings, books, drawings and prints.
