About
Although there were Irish in Minnesota in pre-territorial times, the first Irish settlement was established in the 1850s in Jessenland. A generation later, between 1876 and 1881, Archbishop John Ireland sponsored a Catholic colonization program that brought thousands of Irish families to farms in southwestern Minnesota.
