Bitter Orange

BITTER ORANGE depicts the struggle for dominance and affluence in a multiracial Jamaican family, the Stevenson’s. The ownership of a 450 acre citrus farm, a family inheritance, has caused interminable animosity and strife among the Stevenson family members. Sixteen year old Morlon Stevenson is given the daunting task of continuing the fight for ownership of the farm, on behalf of his father, the current owner, and his mother and sister. However, Morlon does not want to shoulder this responsibility, and ventures onto the path of the Rastafari as a means of escape.
The story follows Morlon’s journey to self-realization through his relationships with his father, friends, his family, and himself. The fate of his family and family inheritance rests on his shoulders. Will he take on the task or take the path that only he understands?
