Anthony Pearson

Anthony Pearson' is the first comprehensive monograph dedicated to the multi-faceted work of this Los Angeles-based artist. Documenting almost 15 years of Pearson's production--including photographs, sculptures, and entirely sui generis hybrid works that combine multiple modes--the book captures the indexical nature of a practice in which intuition and sensitivity to ambient conditions of light and shadow are organized according to rigorous formal principles. An illuminating essay by curator Alex Klein traces the artist's connections to a broad range of cultural influences, his long-standing interest in music, and the formative effect of a life spent in Southern California on all aspects of his practice. Also included alongside documentation of the artist's studio and works are Pearson's own reflections on each of his bodies of work and the processes that led to their creation, providing an intimate record of his development and thought.
