Behind Closed Doors

As morning dawns on an infamous Monday in late August, Katrina laughs with delight as she slams into the Louisiana coast, tossing homes and trees like they were toys, and destroying everything that dares to cross her path.

When she arrives in New Orleans, she taps her feet and claps her hands as if she were at Mardi Gras in a second line dance. But this is no second line; her strength punctures the levees like a knife pierces arteries, and water gushes like blood to bury the city.

She leaves behind a horror yet to be fathomed.

But the horrors beyond that of lives lost and families ruined were the layers of corruption that had been sealed behind the closed doors of government, only to be opened and peeled back by the travails of Katrina.
