About
"Rojstna listina" kočevskega nemškega jezikovnega območja in prvi dokument z imenom neke kočevske vasi (Mooswald) ima datum 1. september 1339. Listina iz leta 1363 prvič imenuje kočevsko središče Kočevje z imenom Gotsche, listina iz leta 1377 pa kot trg z besedami: "unsern Markt ze Gotse". Za nastanek slovenskega imena Kočevje sta dve domnevi. Eni ga izvajajo iz besede "hoja" (Hočevje), drugi pa iz besede "koča" (Kočevje). Po Kočevju kot središču kolonizacijskega ozemlja pa so začeli označevati tudi naseljeno pokrajino.
