About
Oliver Jordan?s more than four-decades-long preoccupation with the theme of the portrait is investigated in a three-volume compendium: The Early Work, Art and Culture, and Encounters. The present volume is dedicated to portraits of personalities from the field of art and culture. Visual artists, painter colleagues, literati, poets, composers, musicians, philosophers, and other creative intellectuals from the past and present are the focus here. At the same time, this preoccupation with the respective personality and his or her work via the recurrent motif of the portrait reflects the artist?s own painterly and personal forging of identity and is also an important artistic statement? especially in an age in which it is necessary to reestablish philosophical and aesthetic values. A further highlight of this publication is its choice selection of authors. Each personality portrayed is accompanied by an individual essay from an either professional or personal perspective. The goal here is to shed light on the multidimensional nature of the respective personalities? significance, impact, and perception. The authors include not only selected experts from various disciplines, but also collectors, friends, and companions.
