The study of lapidary signs casts its gaze on the signs linked to the stone trades. Among them slip other brands, such as graffiti-signatures, sometimes reduced to simple initials that can be confused with the marks of stonemasons. The study of these protean graffiti delivers a lot of information, not only on their authors, but also on the history of the building on which they were written, engraved, scratched, traced, smeared, charred. From this cornucopia then flows a flow of various questions. Who are the authors? When were they traced? What purpose? Why was this building chosen? What identity has been revealed? In what way (partial, complete)? Why do certain eras seem more significant? Parmi eux se glissent d'autres marques, telles que les graffitis-signatures, parfois réduits à de simples initiales qui peuvent se confondre avec les marques de tailleurs de pierre. L'étude de ces graffitis protéiformes livre de nombreux renseignements, non seulement sur leurs auteurs, mais encore sur l'histoire du bâtiment sur lequel ils furent écrits, gravés, griffés, tracés, barbouillés, charbonnés. De cette corne d'abondance se déverse alors un flux de questions diverses. Qui en sont les auteurs? Quand furent-ils tracés? Dans quel but? Pourquoi ce bâtiment a-t-il été choisi? Quelle identité a été dévoilée? De quelle manière (partielle, complète)? Pourquoi certaines époques paraissent-elles davantage signifères?
