De beelden wekken de suggestie van beweging, alsof er een onderdeel weg wil vliegen of juist wil landen. Soms waaieren onderdelen ver uit, om elkaar weer op een ander punt te ontmoeten of juist bijna te raken. De beelden kenmerken zich door een vrolijke, losse stijl met onverwachte sprongen. Kleur wordt door de kunstenaar intuïtief toegepast, met een krachtig resultaat. Dit boek geeft een overzicht van het werk van Auke de Vries, met veel nieuwe en hangende beelden. In 1997 is De Vries de Ouborgprijs (Haagse stadsprijs voor beeldende kunst) toegekend. In 2005 ontving hij de Cultuurprijs van de stad Den Haag.
