Modern Psychologies: An Orthodox Perspective

The ever-increasing number of psychologies presents a confusing picture. Every theory of psychology and model of psychotherapy is based upon a system of beliefs, some claiming impressive results. It is important that these beliefs be presented and discussed in order for the Orthodox Christian to be able to assess the value of each system. This book is intended for the student and layperson, and provides brief surveys of a variety of approaches to psychotherapy, including: Behavior Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Existential Therapy, Gestalt Therapy, Humanistic Therapy, Jungian Theory, Multimodal Therapy, Positive Psychology, Psychoanalysis, and Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy. Each chapter begins with a summary of the historical background and key figures of the approach / model, followed by the key concepts and an evaluation. References are also provided. The evaluation includes an Orthodox perspective. The purpose is to provide the student / layperson with an overview.
