"Challenge the vertical" is the autobiographical book by Jerzy Kukuczka, previously under the title "My vertical world". Re-edited after many years it returns on the English -language market with a refreshed design, new photos from Jerzy Kukuczka's Archive and with new materials added. "Challenge the vertical" is about passion, commitment and love for the mountains, a very intimate story. It pictures not only the way to conquest all fourteen 8000-metre summits , the emotional approach to the mountains and climbing partners but also it is a picture of Poland of the time and the circumstances the Polish Himalayan mountaineering developed in. But above all, it introduces readers into the psychological portrait of the most prominent Polish climber of XX century and is a great opportunity to "get to know" Jerzy Kukuczka , his mountain stories , reflections and on occasion even his desires.
