Gymnastic Riding System: Using Mind, Body and Spirit - Progressive Tra

About
Progressive Training for Rider & Horse. Noted dressage rider and trainer Betsy Steiner has built a comprehensive training system, based on the classical training pyramid used by the German National Equestrian Foundation, USDF and many noted trainers. In her view the rider's development is as critical as that of the horse, if the horse is to progress up the pyramid successfully. But Steiner also conceives this pyramid three-dimensionally: that is, in addition to physical growth, there must also be intellectual and psychological growth in both horse and rider. Keeping track of, and assembling all these building block elements into an workable program could be confusing. But the book is beautifully organized, with a chapter on each pyramid block, from rhythm and suppleness through straightness and collection. Each chapter explains what gymnastic skills horse and rider each must master in order to progress. Steiner helps you assess needs and set goals, then gives exercises, for rider and horse, to achieve these goals. The equestrian pilates program she introduces will help riders become athletes capable of helping their mounts advance. Filled with well-captioned photos and drawings, diagrams, and occasional tips, I can see how this book could become a well-used training tool for any rider honestly trying to improve her performance with her equine partner.
