About
"Short but very useful forewords by Gonzalo Arango and Jotamario Arbeláez precede the first edition of this mythical novel. Since 1967 it has been an underground point of reference, marking the literary innovation brought about by the nadaista movement. Islanada is the fictional account of a trip around Colombia that culminates in an expedition to the Pacific Ocean in search of an unknown island where a group of artists intends to escape from a world ruled by pragmatism. 'La obra cumbre del abismo,' according to Arbeláez, it is a whimsical narrative full of irony and parody - a truly innovative novel in the context of Colombian narrative. In true nadaista spirit, the work strongly rejects Colombia's cultural traditions, and marks an important generational rift"--Handbook of Latin American Studies, v. 58.
