About
The Baumannville study of an African urban community was undertaken by an inter-disciplinary team of post-graduate trainees of the Institute for Social Research in the University of Natal, and was the first of a series of proposed community studies designed to reveal patterns and trends within the structure of four separate racial groups and also within a mixed residential area in Durban. Their purpose was to throw light on the position of each group in the social structure of Durban and on their relation with members of the other groups.
