In other words, this book is a self-guide to locate and visit Ormond Beach historic places. The introduction provides an understanding of the political, economic and environmental factors influencing Ormond’s growth and development as conquerors and pioneers alike struggled to cultivate and settle Halifax Country. The traveler portion of the book provides driving directions and maps to the sites, information about Ormond’s historic sites, and current pictures of what has been preserved today. Our goal as authors is to bring the history of these most important historical places in line with the stories and facts associated with present day Ormond Beach. A detailed timeline provides a chronological order to historical events surrounding our important Ormond Beach history. Like life’s journey, there is a beginning, a middle and end. Ormond’s historic beginning has a very long prehistoric period beginning approximately 20,000 years ago and ending somewhere around the 1500’s.
