To show the relevance of the work for students of both Testaments; 3. To demonstrate how deeply into the past we must plunge in order to discover the ultimate sources of the thought of this remarkable body of men; 4. To bring out as far as possible the characteristics of that thought as it is revealed in this writing; 5.
