About
Death By Holga: 11.22.63 by photographer M. C. Roman is a collection of photographs of the people, places and things associated with the Kennedy assassination taken with a Holga camera. Photographer M. C. Roman spent the last three years traveling all over the Lone Star State and our great nation to find artifacts from the Kennedy assassination. Roman found Kennedy's Air Force One and limousine, the Texas School Book Depository, Lee Harvey Oswald's former residences, the White House, Arlington National Cemetery, Parkland Hospital, Secret Service Agent Clint Hill, witness Mary Ann Moorman, Kennedy babies and Oswald's jail cell at the former Dallas Police Headquarters. But most of all, Roman found the graves of the people who were either part or witnesses to that historic date. Lots and lots of graves. Death By Holga: 11.22.63 includes the graves of President and Mrs. John F. Kennedy, President and Mrs. Lyndon B. Johnson, Secret Service agents William Greer and Roy Kellerman, Governor and Mrs. John B. Connally, Jean Hill, CBS news anchor Walter L. Cronkite, filmmaker Abraham Zapruder, Father Oscar Huber and many more. Death By Holga: 11.22.63 is as much fine art photography book as it is a look back into history. All the photographs were taken with one of Roman's many Holga film cameras. Holga cameras are known as either toy or plastic cameras that use 120 roll film. Holga cameras have a cult following with professional and armature photographers alike. The camera create very artsy images with light leaks, blurriness, sweet-spot focus and vignetting (darkened corners). Numerous smartphone apps have tried to duplicate the photography style of Holga cameras, but they always miss the unpredictable nature of the camera. Using a Holga can be a challenge for such a simple camera. Not all photographs turn out as expected. But that's part of the fun.
