The End of Empires & The Beginning of Nations: The End of the Ottoman Empire & the Birth of the Modern Kurdish National Movement

Kurds until today occupy a very important region in the core of the Middle East. They constitute the most important single minority in that area and form a substantial proportion of the populations in Iraq, Turkey, Iran and Syria. The significance of this work is to provide the reader with an explanation of why the Kurds have pursued and still pursue until today their right for national self-determination, which has culminated in the various tragedies of the 20th and 21st century. And at the same time provides the reader with an understanding of why the Middle East has became the Middle East as of today, an explosive region where the struggle for national survival and freedom still prevails, such as in the cases of Iraq, Syria, Turkey or Lebanon. Additionally, does this work receive special importance when trying to shed a light on the complexity of international power politics, regional developments and various actors that determine the recent developments in the Near- and Middle East.
