Op Texel ligt Jeruzalem. Soms noemden mensen Oosterend Jeruzalem. Omdat het dorp diverse kerken telde. En omdat veel dorpelingen christelijk waren. Dit boek geeft een overzicht van de rijke kerkgeschiedenis van het eiland. Het begint met het ontstaan van het eiland. Wie woonden er? Heidenen. Waarschijnlijk was Willibrord nauw betrokken bij de kerstening van het eiland. Mensen bouwden houten kerkjes. Zij vervingen ze door tufstenen en later bakstenen bedehuizen. Later kregen de wederdopers voet aan wal. Na de Reformatie kreeg elk dorp een predikant. Daarna passeren bekende en minder bekende predikanten, het wel en wee van alle kerken op het eiland komt langs. Het tweede deel van het boek gaat over Oosterend. Over de eerste gereformeerde dominee Jacob Juch. Over Johannes Jacob Buskes. En over de gereformeerde gemeente in de Schoolstraat.
