Het laatste gebaar

Originele invalshoek om naar het oeuvre van een kunstenaar te kijken. Ieder hoofdstuk vertelt een zoektocht naar het laatste kunstwerk dat voltooid dan wel onvoltooid is achtergebleven. Twaalf kunstenaars drongen zich aan Yella Arnouts op. Johannes Vermeer met zijn enigmatische licht, Marcel Duchamp met zijn kijkkast waaraan hij jarenlang in het geheim gesleuteld heeft, Francis Bacon met zijn verwrongen portretten, Louise Bourgeois met haar reuzenspin en ondoorgrondelijke weefsels. Agnes Martin met dat ene laatste inktlijntje uit 'de losse pols' terwijl ze een heel leven met tekendriehoek en schoollat in de weer is geweest. Het laatste gebaar is een originele ode aan de nalatenschap van twaalf kunstenaars die de schoonheid en de zinnelijkheid in lijnen en vormen bezingen. Yella Arnouts is dichteres en essayiste. Ze publiceert dichtbundels en essays in tijdschriften zoals Deus ex Machina en Tijdschrift Vlaanderen. Zij is coördinator van het sociaal en literair project 'De eenzame uitvaart' in Antwerpen Original angle to look at an artist's oeuvre. Each chapter tells a search for the last work of art that has been completed or that remains unfinished. Twelve artists forced themselves on Yella Arnouts. Johannes Vermeer with his enigmatic light, Marcel Duchamp with his viewing box that he has tinkered with in secret for years, Francis Bacon with his twisted portraits, Louise Bourgeois with her giant spider and unfathomable fabrics. Agnes Martin with that one last ink line from 'the loose wrist' while she has spent a whole life working with a drawing triangle and school bar. The last gesture is an original ode to the legacy of twelve artists who sing of beauty and sensuality in lines and shapes. Yella Arnouts is a poet and essayist.
