This book is designed for third and fourth year Spanish students, either as a reader or as a text for survey courses of nineteenth century Spanish prose. There has been no such anthology available until the present time. It offers a broad view of the culture of Spain during the last one hundred years. The material deals with the various regions of Spain, its typical customs, its history, its philosophical and its political problems, and to some extent with the social evolution of the country. - Preface.
