Primera Misión Militar chilena en Ecuador (1899-1905)

At the end of the 19th century, several Latin American countries began processes of modernization and transformation of their military forces. This book studies the Ecuadorian army, at the end of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th century and examines the political interest and military necessity of General Eloy Alfaro Delgado in requesting military services from Chile, during which Ecuador experienced the development of the liberal transformation. The true situation of the permanent regular army and Alfaro's troops formed by the liberal Montoneras are analyzed. Ecuador was the first Latin American country that requested military instructors from Chile to reorganize the army through a contract system that was agreed by the two countries. The work of the Chilean professors was decisive in the way of the professionalization and modernization of the army, they developed texts, manuals and military regulations, the same that were disseminated in the military training institutes that the Chilean officers reorganized as the Colegio Militar y la Escuela de Clases.
