Arriva adesso, per la prima volta un suo capolavoro: il San Giovanni della Galleria Nazionale d'Arte Antica di Palazzo Corsini; ed è grazie all'impegno e alla dedizione di un calabrese a Roma, Giorgio Leone, direttore della Galleria Corsini che ha proposto questa importante testimonianza, ormai qualche anno fa, in seno al Comitato per le celebrazioni del IV Centenario della nascita di Mattia Preti. I tempi sono favorevoli, mentre l'attenzione è concentrata sull'Expo di Milano, perché una delle opere più intense ed essenziali del pittore lombardo lasci Roma per raggiungere le pendici della Sila Piccola e arrivare a Taverna, città natale dell'ultimo grande emulo di Caravaggio, il Cavalier calabrese Mattia Preti. The catalog of an exhibition that featured one of Caravaggio's masterpieces, his "John the Baptist," on exhibition in Taverna, the birth city of Caravaggio's last great imitator, Mattia Preti.
