About
Published in 2001, this small paperback was written to orient today's visitor to Potzdamer Platz, so named because it was the intersection outside the Potsdamer tower gate, one street of which led to Potsdam. Potsdamer Platz developed into an immensely popular commercial and entertainment area, akin to New York City's Times Square. The destruction of WWII and the Wall, which ran through it, leveled it. Beginning in 1993, Potsdamer Platz arose again with the help of leading architects and companies. The book describes the office skyscrapers of Daimler, Sony and others, the huge shopping center Arkaden, the luxury hotels, restaurants, theaters, museums, galleries, underground train station and private living spaces. A map is inside the back cover.
