The initial, good-faith publication of some of the spurious archeological ‘discoveries’ of Abraham ben Samuel Firkowitsch in the Crimea, including fifteen scrolls of the Jewish laws, twenty copies of books of the Bible other than the Pentateuch, and nine Talmudical and rabbinical manuscripts. The present publication ‘gave rise to a whole literature’ (Jewish Encyclopedia), but later proved to be largely spurious. Many of Firkowitsch forgeries were exposed by Hermann L. Strack A. Firkowitsch und seine Entdeckungen (Leipzig, 1876, see Bib# 4103089/Fr# 1475 in this collection). See also M.
