Sauvegarder l'art français

Sauvegarde de l'Art Français is an association created in 1921 by the Duke of Treviso, with the assistance of Aliette de Rohan Chabot, Marquise de Maillé, and the support of personalities from the artistic, literary and political worlds of the time. A great orator, connoisseur of art and architecture, the Duke engaged La Safeguard in an essential mission of defending heritage, raising funds, carrying out local and international actions, giving impetus to major rescue operations of monuments in danger. The Marquise de Maillé continued, during the second half of the 20th century, a work that was still necessary, and ensured the financial conditions for the survival of the association. The Maillé bequest now makes it possible to finance the restoration of hundreds of rural churches each year. Becoming a foundation recognized as being of public utility in 2017, The Safeguarding of French Art continues the fight against heritage and diversifies its interventions through new funding and research support programs, while hosting other foundations dedicated to the protection and knowledge of heritage. A century after its creation, the time has come to put the work of The Safeguard of French Art back at the center of public concerns, and to highlight its history, its actions and its ambition. The book is embellished with numerous documents and old photographs taken from the archives of the foundation, which are now accessible to researchers.
