Rudin & A House of Gentlefolk collects the most important two novels by Turgenev. Rudin has shaped a representative of noble intellectuals in Russia of 1940s. Rudin was smart, passionate, meditative and conversable man who yearned for truth and hoped for future. However, due to social conditions and personal reasons such as Rudin¡¯s being unrealistic and weak of will, he failed both in his career and love. However, Rudin finally took part in the revolution and died on the barricade in Paris. This tragic and heroic outcome brought a glimmer of hope for Russia under the brutal rule of Czar. A House of Gentlefolk depicts the rise and fall of the Russian nobility sharply and vividly. Despite that Lavretski had lofty goals, he was coward and at a loss, even in hope of being guided and rescued by the aristocratic girl. However, his continuous yelling out ¡°how to do¡± has shocked the whole Russia.
