Museo Del Novecento: The Collection

The new museum of the City of Milan, located in the heart of the city, is dedicated to the exhibition of over 400 works of art of the twentieth century and will be free to the public until February 2011.

The exhibition, developed in chronological order, through the major movements and currents of the Italian and has a section devoted to the avant-garde internazionalicon original paintings by Picasso, Braque, Klee and Kandinsky, Modigliani and Laurens, followed by the room and Boccioni Futurism, the art of the twenties and thirties (de Chirico, Morandi, Martini and Melotti), the salon of the tower with the huge environmental work of Lucio Fontana.

It continues with a room devoted to Burri and will mark the Informal and material (Widow, Capogrossi, Novelli, Tancredi, Accardi). A tunnel aereocollega Arengario with the Royal Palace which houses the concluding section of the museum dedicated to the Sixties: from kinetics and programmed with a series of rooms of Group T, the Italian Pop Art Painting and Analytical, to the works of ' Arte Povera, including Luciano Fabro and, in the same wing, all the works from the Museo Marino Marini. This space also includes the archives of the twentieth century (documents, drawings, photographs, publications, recently enriched by the donation of the archive and library of the Galleria Gian Ferrari).

The selection of works that are part of the permanent exhibition has been defined by the Scientific Committee coordinated by Marina Pugliesee composed Accarisi Massimo, Claudio Salsi, Piergiovanni Castagnoli, Flavio Fergonzi, Lucia Matino, Antonio Negri, and Vicente Todolì.

The intent of the new Museum of the twentieth century to present itself as a museum is always open and forward the cittàsi achieved through the constant use of certain spaces: the windows on the ground floor of Via Marconi let you see outside the installations and works on display a rotation of the non-exhibited collection, the services of the museum, restaurant and bookshop, located in the tower dell'Arengario, are designed as a meeting place which is always visible from the Fourth Estate of Pellizza Volpedo; the great Neon Fountain on the top floor is a bright sign visible day and night in Piazza Duomo.
