On the day he thought his promotion to captain was a certainty, Marco, a 19-year-old military prodigy, gets some bad news. In a strange twist of fate, he is reassigned as parole officer for a mischievous teenager named Hugo. For the past few years, Hugo has been mysteriously detained at a distant facility meant for hardened criminals. No one quite understands how a young kid like Hugo could end up at such a harsh labor camp, nor will anyone speak of the circumstances behind his imprisonment. Marco's assignment is simple: he must watch over troublesome Hugo for the next 3 years until his 16th birthday; traveling the empire and doing good deeds to work off his parole. However, what appears to be a demeaning yet straight-forward task begins to take on a more sinister face as Hugo’s hidden ability to directly manipulate the Gears of Destiny is revealed. To make matters worse, Hugo’s brazen attitude, notorious kleptomania and juvenile pranks do nothing but irritate Marco and extend his parole time.
