The History of The Old Georgetown Pike

Excerpt from the Preface: The enthusiasm for this history begins in 1969 with the formation of the Old Georgetown Pike and Potomac River Valley Association. It was then that the concern became acute to save and protect our Virginia Potomac Valley country. I wanted to interest everyone in the Pike, not only as a beautiful road, but to open up the rich heritage that is here I began seriously to search for all that had been written about it without any idea of doing an original pieces of research. However, this inevitably led to the exciting experience of delving into those "most precious documents of our Virginia heritage" in the Archives of the Virginia State Library in Richmond. Here are the Northern Neck Grants The search for records led to the Virginia Rooms of the Alexandria, Falls Church and Fairfax Libraries, and for early maps in the Library of Congress. It led to the search for deeds and wills in the Courthouses of Fairfax, Loudoun and Prince William Counties.
