This is not a technical work intended to supply specialists in Scripture with new and erudite material; it is addressed to all Christians who are interested in the modern biblical movement. Its purpose is to emphasize an essential aspect of the Christian understanding of Scripture, namely the problem which arises when we undertake to interpret it beginning with the inspired author understood at the human level and progressing from there to an understanding of God's message, together with the conditions, divine laws and human rules of this undertaking.
