About
When a worried listener to The Psychic Connection, a radio programme dealing with the paranormal, calls the programme about what sounds like a particularly nasty case of emotional blackmail by local Tarot reader and self-styled spiritual teacher, Bob Ferris, the programme's resident panel, Luke Marriot, Joss Cherry, Isabel Sinclair, Geraldine Bird, and James Myerson, are curious. Just what is Bob up to? They decide to investigate, and soon find they need all of their varied abilities, both rational and psychic, to unravel the mystery. Meanwhile, the remains of a woman's body have been found in a dried-out creek-bed in Queensland, Australia, not far from a former cult commune. Police investigations reveal that the victim, Claire Latimer, was eight months pregnant at the time of her death, and died of a heroin overdose. But someone had to have dumped her body in the creek .... Detective Sergeant Declan Kelly is dispatched to New Zealand in an attempt to trace the whereabouts of the man who was the last known person to see her alive. His trail leads him through the flesh-pots of Auckland's infamous Karangahape Road, to the remnants of another former commune on the scenic Coromandel Peninsula, and finally to Christchurch, where it meets the trail being followed by the Psychic Connection panel. Their combined investigations culminate in a dramatic confrontation at a disused country church, headquarters of Ferris’s increasingly bizarre efforts to bring about the birth of the New Aeon.
