About
Adlai E. Stevenson, presidential candidate in 1952 and 1956, was the leading Democrat and a major figure in American politics and diplomacy during the Cold War years. As U.S. ambassador to the United Nations under Presidents John F. Kennedy and Lyndon Johnson, he negotiated the U.S. position through the Cuban Missile Crisis and Cold War relations with the Soviet Union.
